In coordination with the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure and the Information Technologies and Communication Authority (BTK), the 5G Valley Open Test Field (5GVATS) Project has been initiated with the aim of establishing an open test-trial area that can be utilized by all parties such as producers, entrepreneurial technology companies, operators, academics, and researchers conducting studies on 5G and beyond topics. The project aims to create an environment in the region covering the area between Hacettepe University Beytepe Campus, Bilkent and METU campuses, and the BTK Central Building in Ankara where 5G and beyond applications and technologies can be tested. In line with this objective, the 5G Valley Open Test Field Cooperation Protocol was signed on August 15, 2017, by BTK, Hacettepe University, İhsan Doğramacı Bilkent University, Middle East Technical University, Turkcell İletişim Hizmetleri A.Ş., Türk Telekomünikasyon A.Ş., and Vodafone Telekomünikasyon A.Ş.
It is envisaged that all stakeholders working in 5G and beyond fields will benefit from 5G VATS, enabling new R&D opportunities and launching a platform that facilitates effective research and projects within the framework of public-university-operator-industry collaborations.
In order for Turkey to be one of the leading countries in 5G and beyond technologies and to contribute to the development of these technologies domestically and nationally, to contribute to the establishment process of 5GVATS test infrastructures for creating strategic collaborations, five separate memoranda of understanding were signed on July 24, 2018, between the 5GVATS Protocol Parties and
companies regarding the establishment of test network infrastructures in 5G VATS.
Within the framework of the memoranda of understanding, the final stage has been reached in establishing the test network infrastructures in 5G Valley. At the BTK Market Surveillance Laboratory on Hacettepe University Beytepe Campus in 5G Valley, during the 5G Valley Open Test Field Event held on November 8, 2018, the first 5G test signals were broadcast to 5G Valley, and the test network infrastructures located in the valley were introduced. Links to the Beneficiary Information Brochures containing explanations about the five test network infrastructures in 5G Valley, infrastructure components, technical specifications, and information on studies that can be conducted on the infrastructures are available at the end of the page.
All parties wishing to conduct tests and trials in the 5G Valley Open Test Field Test Network Infrastructures must apply in writing to the Institution on behalf of the 5G Valley Executive Board using the Application Form and Commitment Letter linked below.
Applicants will be able to benefit from the infrastructures according to the schedule determined following the evaluation by the 5G VATS Technical Working Group. Those wishing to benefit from the 5G Valley Open Test Field Test Network Infrastructures must apply to the Institution by January 15, 2019, for the first applications to be evaluated.
